Privacy policy

Gmail Subject Sorter is designed to organize the message list in your browser without collecting your emails. Here's what the extension does—and doesn't do.

Last updated: October 9, 2026 · Applies to Gmail Subject Sorter v1.5.0

Privacy at a glance

Gmail Subject Sorter is a Chrome/Edge desktop browser extension that rearranges conversation rows already loaded in Gmail. The extension operates within the Gmail page in your browser. It does not need a user account, an external server, or permission to your Google account through OAuth.

In short: No email message data is sent to the extension developer. Sorting, filtering, and display changes are performed locally in your browser.

What the extension accesses

To perform its core purpose, the extension can read information from Gmail's currently loaded message-list interface, including displayed conversation subjects, sender names, dates, and indicators such as unread, starred, or attachments. It uses this information to sort or visually filter the rows on the page.

The extension runs only on mail.google.com and requests Chrome's storage permission to remember your settings. Because it works in the Gmail page, Chrome may warn that it can read and change data on Gmail. That permission is needed to display and rearrange the list. It does not change subjects, send mail, delete messages, archive messages, or modify messages on Google's servers.

What information is stored?

Preferences and named views are saved using the browser extension's local storage (chrome.storage.local). These may include your chosen sorting method, filters, saved views, widget position and size, selected Simple or Advanced interface, and display preferences.

The extension does not store email bodies, message contents, attachments, or copies of your mailbox in its preferences. Local preferences are held by your browser profile; they are not synced to a developer service.

Data transmission and sharing

The extension has no developer-operated backend, does not use the Gmail API or OAuth, and does not make requests that transmit Gmail message data to the developer. It does not include analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking libraries, and does not sell or share Gmail information with advertisers or data brokers.

Gmail itself continues to communicate with Google's services as part of normal Gmail operation. Those communications are governed by Google's own policies, not this extension.

This website

sortyourinbox.com is an informational website with a self-contained demo using fictional emails. The site does not connect to your Gmail account, has no signup form, and does not deliberately place analytics or advertising cookies.

Like other hosted websites, the hosting and network provider may process basic connection information (such as IP address and request details) to serve the site and maintain security. This is separate from Gmail message information, which the website does not access.

Your control

Use Original order to return the loaded inbox view to its initial order. You can switch off quick filters, reset widget preferences, or remove the extension using your browser's extension-management page. To review or remove browser-managed extension data, use the controls provided by Chrome or Edge.

Updates to this policy

We may update this policy if the extension's features or data practices change. Any updated policy will be posted here with a new revision date.
